When it comes to your smile, do you want it to be as healthy and beautiful as possible? At Whitaker Family Dentistry we understand the importance of a healthy, beautiful smile and are here today to provide you with some tips for improving your brushing and flossing habits at home. If you have any additional questions about your at-home dental care routine, feel free to ask us about your next appointment at Whitaker Family Dentistry in Fort Valley, GA.

Selecting Dental Care Products

When it comes to having optimal oral health, selecting the right dental care products can have a big impact. We recommend only selecting a toothbrush with soft bristles, harder bristles can actually remove enamel and damage teeth. For flossing, waxed floss, floss picks and even a water flosser can be great options for improving the hygiene of your mouth. For toothpaste, mouthwash and other products, always make sure you are selecting an option with the ADA seal. For those with mobility issues or difficulty brushing, an electric toothbrush can be a wonderful option that can make at-home dental care much easier and effective.

Replacing Dental Care Products

It is also important to replace your dental care products routinely. When it comes to your toothbrush you should replace it every 3 months. If you notice your toothbrush is worn, frayed or otherwise damaged, you should replace it immediately. If you have recently been sick, it is also recommended to replace your toothbrush as soon as possible as bacteria can live on your toothbrush.

Practicing Proper At-Home Dental Care

For optimal oral health, a proper at-home dental care routine is a must. We recommend brushing a minimum of twice a day (if not after each meal) along with flossing at least once a day. Brushing/scraping your tongue can also be important as it reduces bacteria in the mouth responsible for decay, cavities, infections, bad breath, and even gum disease.
